Mindfulness at Home

Nov 30, 2021

We hope to share with you some tools and framework to be more mindful in your role as a parent while helping your kids learn the skills with you. Can you say win-win!? 🏆

🧘‍♀️Mindfulness is quite the buzzword these days and we will be sharing more about what a mindfulness practice might look like for your family, but thought it might help to throw in a quick definition first.

🧘🏻‍♀️Jon Kabat-Zinn, an expert in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has defined mindfulness meditation as:

"The awareness that arises from paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally”.

🧘🏽‍♀️By focusing on the breath, the idea is to cultivate attention on the body and mind as it is moment to moment, to help with pain, both physical and emotional.

🧘🏿‍♀️This week start by paying attention to your breath for just one minute at random times throughout the day. Try setting a timer in your home and when it goes off, model it being fun for your family and say, "Oh! It's our mindful minute, let's pause and see if we can feel, hear, or see our breath! Let's try, ready GO!" Your mind will wander, and your kids may last 10 seconds, and that is okay and totally expected.
