😩It’s So Hard to Wait! 🎣

Happy Monday! 😀

With the recent launch of our new summer Fishing Kit, we thought we’d give you a closer look at it and talk a bit about developing the skill of patience.  Because, if your kids are like our kids, “it’s soooo hard to waaaaaait!” 😂

Packed with our softest play dough or sensory sand, adorable fishing-themed playscapes, and our signature resource booklet, our Fishing Kit allows kids to cast their lines and practice waiting calmly as they "fish" for treasures. It's the perfect blend of fun and learning!

From a teacher and a therapist, here are our few favorite tips for cultivating patience in children:

📝 Model It: Narrate your own patient behavior when in situations requiring you to wait. Let’s be honest, I don’t think anyone actually “enjoys” waiting in line, but the next time you find yourself feeling impatient, just narrate the feelings out loud for your kids to hear.  It might sound like, “oh my goodness, I am feeling so frustrated right now that I have to wait in this line!  I do not love waiting…and I know it’s just a part of life.  I’m going to take some deep breaths.”

Use Visuals: Implement timers or visual countdowns to make waiting feel more concrete. Our absolute fave brand of visual timer is The Time Timer! We use a big one in our home as well as a smaller hand-held one when we need it.

🎣 Play Games: Childhood games and activities like actual fishing, I Spy, musical chairs, hide and seek, etc. naturally encourage taking turns and delaying gratification to help us all practice patience.

💜 Validate Feelings: It's okay if waiting is hard at first! Empathize with impatience while still setting loving limits.

The Fishing Sensory Kit makes practicing patience engaging and fun. “Reel” in (lol) this must-have summer kit today for endless hours of calming, emotionally nourishing play! 🐟

Warmly,

Abbie & Emily
