Ways to Help Kids Describe their Feelings

Does anyone here struggle to know and describe how they are feeling? It can be super hard at times to find the words to share what it is we are feeling-- and for our kids, even harder.

In art therapy, using metaphors can be extremely helpful in communicating and expressing emotions. Kids are especially good at jumping right into this sometimes playful approach of describing feelings using color, shape, sound & more.

Give it a try! See if you can sprinkle in some of these prompts to encourage your child to be creative in describing emotions through drawing, writing, or just talking about it! Make sure you model how you would describe your emotions, too!
